Noize Favorite Photographers: Olivia Bee
We are starting a section highlighting our favorite photographers, and I’m excited to announce Olivia Bee as our first Noize-recognized photographer. Her work is whimsical, dreamy, sensual, and showcases the softer side of what it’s like to be a teenager. Olivia picked up her first camera at the age of 10, gained Converse as her first major commercial client at the age of 15, and just released a major Le Monde d’Hermès campaign and video at her current age of 18. By Alexis Simpson Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra, Simple Pleasure, and Jherek Bischoff put on a theatrical performance for eclectic Detroit fans. Amanda Palmer briefly appeared on stage to give her openers a proper introduction before each of their sets. Yet before her own stage appearance, there was a slight delay due to Amanda feeling under the weather. Admirably, there were no obvious signs of illness throughout her entire performance. Ms. Palmer brought in her own soundboard, crew, and lighting which helped to enhance the aura of the show and shut up critics spouting off about her Kickstarter success. Review: Bassnectar in 2012 (Score 91%)
Last week we were supposed to attend the Bassnectar show in Detroit, but got assigned to cover Madonna last minute so we figured we would take photos after the Madonna show. Security wouldn’t let us bring our cam in that late so we were bummed, but judging from all the drunk people outside of the Fillmore and in the lobby, a good time was had by all. So instead of photos from the show, we made a Spotify playlist of all of Bassnectar’s 2012 released tracks on Spotify and wrote down our first impressions of each song. Clothing Designer Olympia Le-Tan Channels the Lady Obamas
http://www.olympialetan.com/ While browning Tumblr I ran across this photo which was taking during Paris Fashion Week at the Olympia Le-Tan show. I took one look at the photos and assumed, “Duh, her inspirations are the lady Obamas!” Olympia Le-Tan is a handbag and clutch creator turned clothing designer whose creations are being devoured by celebrities and fashionistas looking to imitate the crisp and classy country-club look swirled with a 50’s/60’s vibe. Passion Pit @ Royal Oak Music Theatre 11/2/12 (Photos, Review & Setlist)
Passion Pit turned the Royal Oak Music Theatre into a colorful dance party last Friday as fans were dancing in all sections of the theatre, even the lobby. Michael Angelakos’ voice was on point as the group smoothly worked through their setlist. Angelakos was responsible for generating the most energy from the crowd because the other band members were stationary. He accomplished this by engaging both sides of the theatre by running about so much that it often seemed like he was in two places at once.
