6 Instagram Accounts to Follow.
By Alexis Simpson Instagram is by far my favorite social media outlet. For those of you looking for users worth following, these are my top six recommendations: 1. CRIMEINTHED Let’s face it, Detroit isn’t just about hipsters, BBQ, and bicycling-it’s also about car jacking, murder, and armed robbery etc. To stay up with the latest happenings in Detroit and the ‘burbs, “crimeinthed” has stories that you won’t hear on the news. This account serves as a reminder that when fuckin’ around taking ruin porn photos, always watch your back, and make sure to get that CCW permit. 2. _SHIGETO Ghostly International artist Shigeto is known for his music, but he is also visually inclined…

Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas @ St. Andrew’s Hall 11-27-13 (Photos & Review)
By Alexis Simpson Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas came home to Detroit to perform at St. Andrew’s Hall the night before Thanksgiving. Opening acts included: The Sights, George Morris & The Gypsy Chorus and DJ Nardolicious. Jessica Hernandez had an array of merch swag including a wide array of records and two racks of thrift shop shirts adorned with the band’s patch. Ms. Hernandez’ band of boys was altered with a few missing faces such as bassist Ben Sturley. Jessica Hernandez looked like a young Cher with her long dark hair, cropped bangs and bright mini dress. Her voice sounded as strong and soulful as ever as she performed her…

Fitz & The Tantrums wsg Capital Cities @ The Fillmore Detroit 11-17-13
By Cristina Vitello Sunday night 11/17/13 was a parade of indie-pop music that challenged even the most reserved fan to tap their toes. Featuring soulful and funk-infused styles compliments of Capital Cities and Fitz & The Tantrums, fans were treated to three hours of pure dance-party fun under the historic architecture of The Fillmore Detroit. However, before the real show began, Beat Club took the stage for a less than stellar seven song set. While they had fun, the crowd ultimately did not. Lacking the funky soul that would prove to be a theme of the evening, Beat Club had an average performance reminiscent of a high school talent…

Slayer @ The Detroit Fillmore 11-16-13 (Photos
By Alexis Simpson Testosterone raged at the Detroit Fillmore last Saturday as many big burly dudes and a few hardcore rocker chicks slammed the venue to see thrash metal icons, Slayer. Guitar riffs reigned supreme on the Fillmore sound system creating insane body-slamming mosh pits for those brave enough to enter the main floor. The focus of Slayer’s current tour is to highlight classic songs. The Detroit audience more than adequately showed their appreciation for Slayer’s body of work by head banging, partying hard, and making a lot of noise. Six months ago the band lost guitarist Jeff Hanneman to liver failure. Many fans paid respect by wearing Jeff Hanneman…

Datsik wsg Protohype and Heroes X Villains @ Royal Oak Music Theatre 11-15-13 (Review & Photos)
By Cristina Vitello Packing an extra 100,000 watts of sound and a sold out crowd into the Royal Oak Music Theatre, Datsik shook the plaster loose from the ceiling and made the earth rumble with the most bass heavy concert the venue has ever hosted. Along side Datsik, Firepower Records artists Protohype and Heroes X Villains started off the night before the Vortex struck down center stage for the Rockstar Energy sponsored ‘Most Wanted’ tour. Like the White Rabbit’s rabbit hole, the Vortex was revealed, sucking the audience into a genre-bending, transcendent adventure of hypnotizing light and sound. Datsik took his place among the decks proving once again how he’s…

Sleigh Bells @ St. Andrew’s Hall (11-12-13) (Photos & Review)
By Alexis Simpson Sleigh Bells, the rockalicous electro-pop duo, played at St. Andrew’s Hall last week in front of a glammed up crowd. Sleigh Bells is comprised of the lovely vocalist Allison Krauss and Derek Miller on guitar. Alison shined on stage in Detroit due to her infectious smile and ability to draw the crowd in. The group managed to create a party atmosphere even on a Tuesday night. Their sound had a mini makeover due to the addition of an extra guitarist and drummer. The additions added sophistication to their sound. Sleigh Bells is modern, original, and adept at putting out new music at a pace that pleases their…

Our own Kid Rock went to Voodoo Fest and put on a top tier performance. In addition, in typical Kid Rock fashion, he was the only artist to thank the crowd for spending their hard earned money on the festival! http://www.kidrock.com

The 2013 Voodoo Music + Arts Experience Day 3 Photos: 50 Beautiful Photos of The Cure
By Alexis Simpson I got the change to photograph the Cure last Sunday at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans. Robert Smith was such a great subject to photograph so I wanted to share the different photos of him with a few of his band mates thrown in. He is eerily beautiful and The Cure sounded the best out of any of the bands at Voodoo that we heard!
