Frank Turner, Larry and His Flask, and Jenny Owen Youngs @ St. Andrew’s Hall (Photos & Review)
By Alexis Simpson British singer Frank Turner charmed the audience at Detroit’s St. Andrew’s Hall with his folk rock music, friendly demeanor, and spirited stage show. The crowd was well-versed in Turner’s lyrics and even the believers sang along to the blasphemously fun and cheeky song “Glory Hallelujah.” We also got a kick out of the new song “Wherefore Art Thou, Gene Simmons?.” Frank Turner showed his playful side to us when he asked the audience to play the “air harmonica” during one of his songs to which we happily obliged, and were later awarded with Jenny Owen Youngs joining Frank on stage to play the real harmonica. Another high point of the evening was…

Check Out Chevelle! (Photos)
By Alexis Simpson We saw Chevelle perform for the first time last month at DTE. Appearance wise, they weren’t at all what I was expecting. Their band name had me falsely assuming they would be more like the car Chevelle-older and classic, with black beat-up band shirts and long rocker hair. All three members are surprisingly clean-cut and “normal” for a rock band. Singer Pete’s boyish good looks give him an easy-going charisma and versatility. Musically, they are an all-american rock ‘n roll band. Their new album “Hats off to the Bull” would explain the giant bull on stage. Members Pete- vocals/guitar. Sam- drums. Dean- bass. http://www.chevelleinc.com/ http://www.myspace.com/chevelle https://twitter.com/ChevelleInc

Check Out Slightly Stoopid! (Concert Photos & Album Review) Score 81%
Slightly Stoopid drew us in when they opened for 311. They played a long set that impressed the laid back and fun-loving Detroit crowd. They are a groovy group of white boy reggae masters with an impressive backup band. Their performance made us want to check out their new album. Here are our first Impressions of Top of the World and concert photos from their performance last month. One of the band members was making eyes at me, can you guess who?:) 1. Top of the World-Solid intro song 2. Don’t Stop-Makes me want to go back to Jamaica. 3. Devil’s Door-Muffled sound, good bass line 4. Serious Man-Nice bouncy…

We Love Wayne White!
By Alexis Simpson Wayne White is an American artist from Tennessee who is documented in the film “Beauty is Embarrassing” which opens up in select theatres September 7th. Wayne worked on Peewee’s Playhouse, and has since done a lot of different creative things. We especially enjoy hearing him speak on the art world and what it means to be an artist. Check out the videos below. “You can get over-romanticized. You can get kind of self-pitying for yourself as an outsider. Oh nobody understands me blablabla..Of course they don’t understand you, go with it, love it you know, that’s what you’re there for not to be understood. An artist is an outsider…
