Melvins Lite @ Small’s 8/24/12 (Photos)
We could not miss watching the Melvins Lite (Buzz, Dale, and Trevor Dunn) perform in Hamtramck during their attempt to become the Guinness World Record holders for the first band to tour the full United States and D.C. in 51 days with a tour kicking off Sept. 5 in Anchorage, Alaska and wrapping up Oct. 25 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The legendary band sounded superb with no signs of wear and tear despite their grueling schedule. Small’s bar sold out the Detroit leg of this tour and people were packed into the performance room. Before the show Buzz Osbourne paced back and forth outside the venue seemingly in deep concentration to prepare for the…

The Wombats @ The Crofoot 9/21/12 (Photos, Review, & Setlist)
By Alexis Simpson After The Wombats show ended, two young girls were running around the ladies room squealing, “OMG Dan took my bracelet!!! He actually took it…” The other Wombats fans in the bathroom were a little older and knew it was no longer cool to act like a One Direction fan, but it was charming to see the two fans so worked up. It made me think back to when I first photographed The Wombats a year ago at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans. As soon as I posted those pics, BAM, those pics were devoured by the Tumblr girls and reblogged on tumblr’s like murphsexgod and fuckyeahwombats. Their…

AWOLNATION @ St. Andrew’s Hall 9/18/2012 (Photos & Review)
By Jacob Giampa Last Tuesday AWOLNATION made a stop in Detroit for their “Never Let Your Fear Decide your Fate” tour. More than half of their shows (including their Detroit show) have sold out due to how well the band performs together and the originality of their music. Imagine Dragons and Zeale are a part of this tour as well. Zeale was the first band of the night, they are a new Hip-Hop and Indie group from Austin, Texas. Since the group was in Detroit, the home of so many great MC’s, Zeale performed an entertaining freestyle rap using the audience-chosen words “orange,” “boat,” and “sexy.” The audience loved it, and the night…

Frank Turner, Larry and His Flask, and Jenny Owen Youngs @ St. Andrew’s Hall (Photos & Review)
By Alexis Simpson British singer Frank Turner charmed the audience at Detroit’s St. Andrew’s Hall with his folk rock music, friendly demeanor, and spirited stage show. The crowd was well-versed in Turner’s lyrics and even the believers sang along to the blasphemously fun and cheeky song “Glory Hallelujah.” We also got a kick out of the new song “Wherefore Art Thou, Gene Simmons?.” Frank Turner showed his playful side to us when he asked the audience to play the “air harmonica” during one of his songs to which we happily obliged, and were later awarded with Jenny Owen Youngs joining Frank on stage to play the real harmonica. Another high point of the evening was…
