Downtown Ferndale is hosting a great event in support of Camp Casey on October 15th. Read the details below to learn more ! Camp Casey, a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 2003, offers three unique programs to children with cancer and their families. Cowboy Camp Outs are overnight mini-vacations at dude ranches in Michigan; Horsey House Calls bring a horse to the doorstep of kids too ill to attend an overnight retreat; Outlaw Outings provide family-oriented activities, like attending professional sports games, without the expense or hassle of planning. The Black Belles @ MI Fest (Photos & Review)
The Black Belles could be seen throughout the day checking out different performances at MI Fest. Meanwhile many festival attendees had the Black Belles slated as one of the top new groups that they wanted to see at the festival. Jack White discovered the group and is helping them to make their presence known with the release of an album in November. Smart move Jack! The girls impressed the crowd with their modern blend of grunge and soul. Photographing them was a blast with their striking good looks and strong stage presence. Ty Stone @ MI Fest (Photos and Interview)
Ty Stone has been described as “a powerhouse singer in an unprettified package.” This Detroit native has been earning lots of fans due to his raw talent, lyrics that hit home, and likeable personality. Music has always been a big part of Ty Stone’s life, but it took a little help from Kid Rock to take it to a whole new level. A good friend of Ty’s was able to slip Kid Rock a demo during a Piston’s game, and not long after, Ty found himself hanging with Kid Rock, touring, and putting out a new album on Top Dog/Atlantic Records. It’s been a week since MI fest and I’m still reflecting on the great mix of music that I heard. The Third Man Records Rolling Record Store was another great part of the MI Fest experience. It’s hard to imagine that one little ‘ol truck can bring about such excitement but it was the first thing I looked for upon entering the MI Fest grounds. One of the cool things that Third Man Records is doing is inviting selected artists that are traveling through Nashville to stop at Third Man Studio and record a single which is then made available on 7″ vinyl. Sheryl Crow @ MI Fest (Photos & Review)
Sheryl Crow has won 9 Grammy Awards and has an impressive catalog of songs. Despite all her achievements, sometimes all it takes is one song for an artist to make an impression on a fan. For me that song is “I Shall Believe.” I was ecstatic to hear her play that live at MI Fest. I will even forgive her for teasing us early during her intro to her 4th song with Kid Rock’s name as if he may join her on stage. How mischievous! Regardless, she sang beautifully and warmed up quickly to the MI Fest crowd as they warmly embraced her music.

As a producer and an emcee he has worked with such names as: J Dilla, Lloyd Banks, Jack White, Canibus, Pharoahe Monch, Royce da 5’9″, Danny Brown, Slum Village’s Elzi and Bisthop Lamont. Puhol, another one to watch from Third Man Records, describes his music as “Southern Gothic Rock.” The label’s site has an amusing bio well worth sharing… “Pujol was raised in Tullahoma, TN where he lived in a haunted house which sat one block away from the wrong side of the tracks.
