Matt & Kim put on a lively show full of energy and lots of smiling. They are a lot of fun and have successfully found their own niche in the music biz with their quirky up-beat indie sound. The first song I ever heard by Matt & Kim was “Northeast” which sounds more melancholy than some of their other songs but shows their depth as a duo. Detroit native Black Milk lives for music. As a producer and an emcee he has worked with such names as: J Dilla, Lloyd Banks, Jack White, Canibus, Pharoahe Monch, Royce da 5’9″, Danny Brown, Slum Village’s Elzi and Bisthop Lamont. Bear Lake of Rochester-Hills, MI is one of the great bands Noize is looking forward to checking out at MI fest ’11 on September 17th. The band is made up of of Hines (acoustic guitar, vocals), Jon Rice (electric guitar, vocals), Keith May (bass and vocals), Brian Kwasnik (keyboards, vocals), Erik Pederson (percussion, keyboards) and Stephen Stetson (drums). These six guys have been making music together in various projects since middle school which may explain why they work so well together. ANR Brian Robertson (Keyboardist/vocals) Michael John Hancock (Drummer/vocals) ANR traveled to Detroit to play us some tunes in preparation for their release of the deluxe edition of Stay Kids. Ty Stone has been described as “a powerhouse singer in an unprettified package.” This Detroit native has been earning lots of fans due to his raw talent, lyrics that hit home, and likeable personality. Music has always been a big part of Ty Stone’s life, but it took a little help from Kid Rock to take it to a whole new level. Panic! at the Disco in Royal Oak @ Arts, Beats, & Eats 9/2/2011 (Photos and Review)
Coachella? Lolla? SXSW? Sure, they’re great…But the small city of Royal Oak has been pulling together their own mini music festival full of great acts at an unbeatable price. The city was able to snag Panic at the Disco before the band sets out on their Fall tour. Panic! singer, Brendon Urie, quickly commented to the crowd how hot it was in Detroit and teased that he may have to remove some clothing if the audience is willing to as well. Record temperatures or not, Panic! at the Disco put on a lively, full-sounding performance complete with great lighting, superb musicianship, and Urie’s distinctive and lyrical voice. The Psychedelic Furs at Royal Oak’s Eats, Beats & Eats (Photos & Review)
The Psychedelic Furs are the kind of band that can take music from the past and make it new again. They drew a large crowd on the last day of Royal Oak’s Arts, Eats, & Beats and put on a strong performance. Richard Butler had a lot of interesting Vogue type poses and a killer smile as his best accessory. Fellow band members Tim Butler (bass), Rich Good (guitar), Mars Williams (saxophone), Amanda Kramer (keyboards), and Paul Garisto (drums) also owned the stage as rockstars should.
