Big Sean performed an impressive and moving homecoming concert at DTE Music Theatre on August 31st. The performance was in celebration of his new album Hall of Fame, which was released within the same week of his show. The night was indeed a family affair as the Detroiter rapped alongside of his beaming Dad early in the concert, and later brought his mother on stage for a poignant slow dance in which the sensitive Big Sean showed he wasn’t afraid to shed a few tears in front of the 12,000+ crowd. Best of Mo Pop Festival 8-17-13 (Photos)
By Alexis Simpson Freedom Hill Amphitheater hosted the eclectic inaugural Mo Pop Festival last Saturday in Sterling Heights. Besides two stages of music, Mo Pop Festival offered a craft beer garden, a food truck court, booths offering art for sale with artists painting on-site, and a sideshow featuring naughty burlesque dancers and other assorted performance artists. Standout performances included Detroit’s own Jamaican Queens and Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr, Manchester Orchestra, Old Crow Medicine Show, Andrew Bird, and the charismatic and colorful Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes. Nobody doubts Kid Rock’s loyalty towards Detroit and the state of Michigan. The homegrown rockstar still resides in Michigan, shouts his love of Detroit in songs, and most recently sold out 8 August shows at DTE Music Theatre where ticket prices were set at only $20.
