Bright Eyes in Grand Rapids 8/3/2011 (Photos and Review)
Originally posted on Navdo Bright Eyes performed a passionate, lively, and poignant set at the beautiful Frederik Meijer Gardens Ampitheater in Grand Rapids. Dazzling Frontman, Conor Oberst even remarked that it was one of the most beautiful locations he had ever played. Bright Eyes is a MUST SEE performance due to the full band sound, sincere lyrics, and magical prowess of Conor Oberst. One of the best moments of the night came when Conor told the audience a story about how a certain unnamed celebrity paid him a lot of money to play “First Day of my Life” at her wedding. Speculation suggests Conor played the love song at the…

Airborne Toxic Event 7/29/2011 (Photos and Review)
Usually at rock concerts, unabashed fans are seen recklessly strumming their air guitars. At The Airborne Toxic Event show at the Majestic Theatre, I saw air violinists inspired by Anna Bulbrook’s delightful performance. She was the element that pulled everything together that night. It was enjoyable to watch the interactions of The Airborne Toxic Event as they fed off each other’s energy during the 90+ minute performance and encore. Detroit kicked off this remarkable band’s summer tour in a big way with a great lineup of tunes and even a few covers such as “I’m on Fire”, “I Fought the Law” and “Folsom Prison Blues.” Jason Stollsteimer’s group (formerly of the…

Review and Photos of Matisyahu @ St. Andrew’s Hall 7/10/2011
The Matisyahu show in Detroit must have been sold out because St. Andrew’s Hall was packed! San Fran’s Teaf Leaf Green opened with a set of 9 polished rock, blues and country blended tunes. The band was an interesting choice for an opener since their music is quite different than Matisyahu’s. Nevertheless, I enjoyed them and plan to make them a part of my MP3 collection. Matisyahu has a commanding presence on stage. This is enhanced by the fact that he is exceedingly tall. He stands a lean 6’5″. His height was surprise #1. Matisyahu has mastered the art of performance. His movement and stances on the stage were rhythmic…

A Perfect Circle at the Fox Theatre 7/8/2011
The first thing I noticed on the stage of APC’S Detroit show was a teeny tiny piano about 3 ft away from me. An audience member whispered to me that Billy Howerdel started out the show playing the preemie piano. He was right! Enjoy the pictures…
