Arctic Monkeys in Detroit @ Joe Louis 3/3/12 (Setlist, Concert Review, and Photos)
Members: Jamie Cook, Matt Helders, Nick O’Malley, Alex Turner http://www.arcticmonkeys.com The Arctic Monkeys are world-renowned for their live performances, and have become one of the most popular indie bands with over 2.5 million Facebook followers. Arctic Monkeys started out their show sensationally, but really made an impression on the song “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” and beyond. The sound in the large arena was surprisingly clear and remarkably loud. The stage lighting was simple and elegant which showed off the group’s polished musicianship and presentation. Drummer Matt Helders was especially entertaining to watch as he enthusiastically beat on his drums with a big smile. Alex Turner easily captivated Detroiters with his…

The Deadmeat Tour: Steve Aoki and Datsik 2-25-11 (Review and Photos)
After the Detroit leg of The Deadmeat Tour, I overheard one fan say that she wished Aoki and Datsik owned a Detroit club and held such a party every week. We agree! Saturday night was a high-energy, super-hype event. We walked in just in time to hear the second special guest, Mustard Pimp. Mustard Pimp was a pleasant surprise and well-worth checking out. The group is signed to Aoki’s label, Dim Mak Records. Datsik was up next. The British Columbia, Canadian has had a huge year. Ironically, we had just covered the Korn show at the same venue two days earlier, and Datsik had helped Korn with their new 2011 album. Datsik…

Korn at the Detroit Fillmore 2-21-11 (Concert Review & Photos)
Jonathan Davis – Vocals James Shaffer – Guitar Reginald Arvizu – Bass Ray Luzier – Drums http://www.korn.com http://www.myspace.com/korn http://www.facebook.com/korn http://www.twitter.com/korn http://www.youtube.com/user/kornchannel Jonathan Davis of Korn started off the night as “J-Devil” and djayed a set for the crowd. Jonathan had performed at Bert’s Warehouse in Detroit earlier in the year, but the majority of the crowd had never seen this side of him. The sound system was so strong that it blew the Mac laptop right off the table much to the surprise of the Korn frontman. After the laptop was duck-taped down, the show went on. Jonathan’s enthusiasm and love for playing electronic music set the tone for the night. Check…

Album Review: Fun. “Some Nights” 2-21-12 (Score 100%)
By Alexis Simpson Genre: Rock Members: Nate Ruess Jack Antonoff Andrew Dost http://www.ournameisfun.com http://www.store.ournameisfun.com http://www.myspace.com/fun http://www.twitter.com/ournameisfun http://www.bebo.com/ournameisfun Fun. has grown immensely in popularity due to a heavy touring schedule, word of mouth, and Glee’s cover of “We are Young.” They remind us a lot of the voice of Mika with the theatricalness of Queen. The album is a hodgepodge of different styles smoothly blended together. We loved the drum and percussion sections.”Some Nights” is an exceptional album not without risks. The musicianship, personal and sometimes sad lyrics entwined with the general theme of overcoming obstacles make this album shine. 1. Some Nights-Intro: Intro? Sounds like it could stand on its own.…
