DAY 2: Detroit International North American Auto Show 2013 (Photos & Review By Alexis)
By Alexis Simpson Today was an exciting day because two of my auto show photos were featured in a Wall Street Journal Gallery! Hopefully a few more will get published. Jacob Giampa also shot Wednesday night with me. We noticed that there was less free booze, but more models and cars. Guys, if you’re looking to try your best lines on the models, do not ask them if they have driven the car they are modeling for. I heard each model asked that all day long! I’m photographing the auto show for news/documentary purposes only, so don’t look for anything too artsy. I tried to shoot as many different cars…

Detroit North American International Auto Show 2013 NAIAS (Review & Photos by Alexis)
By Alexis Simpson This year we decided to cover the North American International Auto Show in order to scope out the shiny new cars. It was exciting to see all the international press scurrying about and speaking in their native tongues. Volkswagen had the most dynamic setup with drinks aplenty, pulsing electronic music, and lovely dancing models. I photographed the cars that I thought were the most eye-catching, and will be posting all photos tonight and updating the make and model of cars over the next few days. Which cars do you like? My top car of the show is the Bentley Speed Convertible otherwise known as the the Continental…

Forty Art Wonders at The Chicago Institute of Art
By Alexis Simpson Last weekend we breezed through The Chicago Institute of Art and were in awe of the artwork. It is quite powerful to see a particular piece of art in person after seeing it a zillion times in photos. We compiled a list of some of our pieces. ACROBATS AT THE CIRQUE FERNANDO BY PIERRE-AUGUSTE RENOIR (FRENCH) (FRANCISCA AND ANGELINA WARTENBERG) OIL ON CANVAS, 1879: One of four permanent circuses in Paris, the Cirque Fernando opened in 1875. The two girls painted were ages 17 and 13. After their performance, the girls bowed and gathered up tissue-wrapped oranges tossed to them in appreciation. YOUNG WOMAN SEWING BY PIERRE-AUGUSTE RENOIR…

Noize Favorite Photographers: Olivia Bee
We are starting a section highlighting our favorite photographers, and I’m excited to announce Olivia Bee as our first Noize-recognized photographer. Her work is whimsical, dreamy, sensual, and showcases the softer side of what it’s like to be a teenager. Olivia picked up her first camera at the age of 10, gained Converse as her first major commercial client at the age of 15, and just released a major Le Monde d’Hermès campaign and video at her current age of 18. It’s hard to not be a little envious of her success at such a young age, but her talent is undeniably inspiring. We first heard of her on Vice and Rookie…

Clothing Designer Olympia Le-Tan Channels the Lady Obamas
http://www.olympialetan.com/ While browning Tumblr I ran across this photo which was taking during Paris Fashion Week at the Olympia Le-Tan show. I took one look at the photos and assumed, “Duh, her inspirations are the lady Obamas!” Olympia Le-Tan is a handbag and clutch creator turned clothing designer whose creations are being devoured by celebrities and fashionistas looking to imitate the crisp and classy country-club look swirled with a 50’s/60’s vibe. I did a quick “google” to see if anybody else had noticed the association, but to no prevail. Regardless, I think I am spot on with guessing her inspiration and admire the line and bags. So, in anticipation of Obama winning 4 more years, check…

A Noize Note: Redefining our Direction
By Alexis Simpson Is Noize a music or a photography site? As of now, it’s more of a music site although the name Noize was chosen due to the noise in lowlight photography AND due to noise or sound of music. I figured it was the perfect word to describe both music and photography at the same time. Music is my favorite subject to photograph, but it’s time to do more. I want to give the “news” part of the domain more attention by shooting more culture/documentary images. I’m influenced by other documentary photographers and sites that make me want to shoot more often and a photograph a broader spectrum…

We Love Wayne White!
By Alexis Simpson Wayne White is an American artist from Tennessee who is documented in the film “Beauty is Embarrassing” which opens up in select theatres September 7th. Wayne worked on Peewee’s Playhouse, and has since done a lot of different creative things. We especially enjoy hearing him speak on the art world and what it means to be an artist. Check out the videos below. “You can get over-romanticized. You can get kind of self-pitying for yourself as an outsider. Oh nobody understands me blablabla..Of course they don’t understand you, go with it, love it you know, that’s what you’re there for not to be understood. An artist is an outsider…

Hell Yeah Grocery Delivery!
I started getting my groceries delivered due to my love of milk. I prefer to drink skim milk, but I often found myself buying 2% because the gas station down the street only has 2%. I also get annoyed when I come home to an empty fridge and I’m too tired to go grocery shopping. Oberweis had advertized their milk delivery service so I was quick to sign up. Soon after that, I tried Michigan Door to Door Organics. If you are the busy type and find yourself eating out too much, these services can save you a lot of time and money. If you’re in the Michigan area, check…
