Album Review: The Rose Cult “Welcome to the Rose Cult” (Score=100%)
By Alexis Simpson The Rose Cult band reached out to me to check out some of their new material, and I’m so glad I did! They too, like my current obsession, Jamaican Queens, possess that crazy-cool Detroit vibe that makes me want to head downtown and vibe with the city. I love their sound, and want to help spread the word about what they are doing. Check out my first impressions review of their album Welcome to the Rose Cult. There was absolutely NOTHING to not like about this album. I’m gonna buy it. Check out the streaming album here: http://christopherpratt.bandcamp.com. Big Freedia @ The Crofoot with Azz Azz Azz Everywhere! 1/31/12 (Photos & Concert Review)
By Alexis Simpson Big Freedia is coming to town? Hell yeah, we can’t miss that! Big Freedia knows how to put on a party. Big Freedia and her bevy of dancers turned The Crofoot into a celebration of ass shaking. What better way to relieve the stress of a hard day’s work, than by bouncin’ your butt around to booming bass and illustriously naughty lyrics? Detroit breakout band The Jamaican Queens and the majestic Tunde Olaniran had already gotten the crowd into a spirited mood with unbeatable opening acts. By the time Big Freedia took over the stage, the diverse crowd was in a frenzy. Big Freedia hails from the the…

Tunde Olaniran @ The Crofoot 1/31/12 (Photos)
We first heard of Tunde Olaniran a few months ago when his PR rep told us about him. We were beyond excited to see him perform live for the first time. Our favorite rap duo out of Detroit, Passalacqua, even joined Tunde on stage near the end of the show! Check out Tunde ASAP, and you too will be singing, “I’m a brown boy! Ima Ima brown boy!” His dancers aren’t just backup dancers, but move in a such a way that is pure performance art. Also important to note, Tunde’s fanbase is very loyal, diverse, and know how to shake their ass! Album Review: Hell Or Highwater Premiere New Album, “Begin Again” (SCORE 86%)
Hell Or Highwater was in Detroit January 25th, when they opened for The Darkness. We got the chance to preview their new album, Begin Again, and wanted to share our first impressions of each track. For those that don’t know, Hell or Highwater was founded by Brandon Saller, the drummer/vocalist for Cali rock band, Atreyu. You can preview the album on Revolver’s site: http://www.revolvermag.com/news/exclusive-hell-or-highwater-premiere-new-album-begin-again.html You can order the album here! 1. Gimme Love-Sold opener. Love song about a guy who loves a girl. Nothing not to like. Simple. 2. Hail Mary-This song is also directed at a girl, except the love has gone wrong. I like this one a little better…

Detroit Domination: Jamaican Queens @ The Crofoot 1/31/12 (Photos)
By Alexis Simpson I can’t stop listening to the Jamaican Queens. I listen to their new song “Water” at least 15-20 twenty times a day. March 5th is the release of their new album Wormfood, and I’m upset I can’t get ahold of this album much sooner. Even thought I’m still trying to better understand what the heck “trap-pop” is, I feel a little bit cooler every time I listen to this group. Their sound represents the gritty Detroit crazy-cool vibe that publications like Time Magazine and The New York Times like to write about. Check out photos from their performance with Tunde Olaniran and Big Freedia at The Crofoot in Pontiac, MI.…
