Lindsey Stirling @ The Crofoot 3/16/13 (Photos, Setlist and Concert Review)
By Jacob Giampa Lindsey Stirling played her violin with great enthusiasm and energy for the sold out Crofoot Ballroom crowd. I have never seen the Crofoot so packed! She performed a mix of covers and original work. She really got the crowd going by dancing all over the entire stage, in fun theatrical type outfits. Lindsey has a unique take on modern hits. This girl is definitely the most entertaining violinist around. When she comes back I would get your tickets early because it will definitely sell out! http://lindseystirlingviolin.com http://www.youtube.com/lindseystomp http://www.youtube.com/LindseyTime https://twitter.com/lindseystirling SETLIST Elements Electric Daisy Violin Shadows Michael Jackson Medley Song of the Caged Bird Free Bird (a few…

Instagram Randomness: The Road to Ultra Music Festival 2013
By Alexis Simpson This year I was on assignment to cover Ultra Music Fest in Miami, FL. I’m now back in cold Michigan and already missing the ocean, excitement, and sunny days. Over the next few weeks I’ll be recapping our wonderful trip to one of the biggest music festivals in the world. To start, here are some of the sights I saw in Miami and captured on my iPhone before the festival actually started. Working in these neighborhoods before the trip Best Tanning Lotions Ever Taking Sarabird to the Birdy Kennel This douche wore his robe to the airport. He going to Vegas to celebrate his bachelor party. He…

Major Lazer @ Miami’s Ultra Music Festival 2013
I had been waiting for my chance to photograph some big balls. I had assumed my opportunity would come whenever I photograph The Flaming Lips, but to my surprise I got to photograph Diplo’s big big balls! I’ve been a fan of Major Lazer for awhile. Why? 1. The music makes you feel good. 2. Diplo is F.I.N.E. The marriage of dance music with reggae is genius. The track “Original Don” is perfection. Even the darkest goth can’t help but to wiggle to this song. Major Lazer has a new album out 4/15, so until then check out my photos from Ultra! http://majorlazer.com http://www.twitter.com/majorlazer http://www.youtube.com/MajorLazerVEVO PHOTOS F.I.N.E. Slightly Stoopid @ St. Andrew’s Hall 3/10/13 (Photos and Review)
By Jacob Giampa I first saw Slightly Stoopid last year when they played with 311, and I was hooked on them right away. They are now headlining their own tour. During their Detroit show, kids kept getting busted for smoking weed and the fans were throwing joints on stage for the band as well. Many positive vibes were being sent out by the crowd and you could tell that the band was soaking all them up. Throughout the show there were many genres of music being played such as reggae, rap, ska and some good old fashion Slightly Stoopid punk. Drowning Pool @Saint Andrew’s Hall 3/9/13 (Photos & Concert Review)
By Tracy Mailhiot (Tink( Drowning Pool is currently on tour promoting their upcoming fifth studio album, Resilience, which is scheduled to hit the shelves on April 9, 2013. The guys are co-headlining this leg of the tour with Flyleaf, and will continue later on with Fozzy for their European stint. Fellow Texan, Jasen Moreno, has taken over lead vocals for the band after McCombs decided to rejoin Soil on their European tour. Jasen is the fourth singer the band has had in the last ten years. Not an easy task for a band to overcome once, let alone 4 times. Jasen has taken on the task with full force, and the crowd…

Flyleaf @ Saint Andrew’s Hall Detroit 3/9/13 (Photos & Review)
By Tracy Mailhiot (Tink) I recently had the pleasure to check out Flyleaf performing at Saint Andrew’s Hall in Detroit. I have been a Flyleaf fan for a few years, and personally i’m always a little concerned or apprehensive when the lead singer of a band is replaced. Lacy Strum stepped down as the lead singer of Flyleaf due to personal reasons in October 2012, shortly before the release of their third studio album entitled, ‘New Horizons”. Kristen May has been hired on as the lead singer for Flyleaf, and beautifully so. She has a wonderful stage presence with lots of energy and incredibly strong vocals. Kristen is a fantastic fit…

Album Review-Jamaican Queens-Wordfood (Score-111%)
Genre-Alt/Indie Rock, INdie Electronic, Indie Pop, Neo-Psychedelia My biggest critique of this album is that I wish there were a few more tracks. MORE! I WANT MORE! Jamaican Queens, when not touring, are out on the town checking out fellow Detroit musicians’ sets. (Read their Twitter HERE, it’s entertaining:) Their sound is indeed their own, and makes me proud that a group from the Detroit are is putting out something so original, moody, smart and stylish. Here is my first impression review: 1. Water-I love this song. I can’t really imagine liking another song so much this year. I proclaim this the Song of the Year woo woo, and I…

Tame Impala @ St. Andrew’s Hall 3/7/13 (Photos, Setlist & Concert Review)
By Alexis Simpson Kevin Parker and his Australian band’s music meshed well together as psychedelic stage lighting gave them all an androgynous glow for the sold out St. Andrew’s Detroit crowd. Parker’s elfin face and bare feet meant business as he led a syncopated set of intergalactic strumming and dreamy vocals. Their aura fit in well with the Detroit crowd who who was intensely feeling the music but vibin’ in a relaxed and chemically-induced way.
