Charlie XCX @ Saint Andrew’s Hall (Review, Setlist & Photos)
By Alexis Simpson
Charlie XCX performed at Detroit’s Saint Andrew’s Hall joined by lady singers Femme and Elliphant as opening acts. We looked forward to all acts since these overseas ladies may not come into town too often due to distance. Charlie XCX is the pen behind both Icona’s Pop’s “I Love It” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” Obviously Charlie is crafty enough to write worldwide hits, but upon seeing her perform, she’s a star onstage as well. Her presence was beguiling, and she wore one of the best stage outfits we’ve seen in awhile-a silky blue negligee dress under a fuzzy pink coat. She also earned bonus points for her female band. “Boom Clap” is her current radio song that is making waves, which means seeing her at a small venue was surely a rare treat since the US is in need of an intelligent pop princess more likable than the snarky Lorde. Ms. XCX lists Noize favorite, Uffie, as one of her influences…Perhaps Charlie XCX can resurrect Uffie from wherever she is and do a duo. *hinthint*
