Ophidian Trek 2012: Baroness and Meshuggah @ St Andrew’s Hall 5/16/12 (Concert Review & Photos)
Meshuggah showed Detroit why they have been selling out shows for the Ophidian Trek 2012 tour with their gloriously heavy sound. We are keen on Meshuggah, but last Wednesday night was all about Baroness. We had heard a big buzz about the group, and made it a priority to check them out. Baroness took the stage with an intense energy that matched the crowd’s eagerness to rock. The group is touring in preparation for the release of their new album that comes out July 17. In fact, Singer John Baizley creates the artwork for all the Baroness albums. Baroness has received rave reviews from the toughest of music critics, and their Detroit performance reinforced…

RAMMSTEIN SETS THE PALACE ON FIRE 5/6/12 (Concert Review & Photos)
Rammstein (translates into “Ramming Stone”) was formed in 1994, originating in Berlin, Germany. Their music has been described as industrial metal and the majority of their songs are still performed in German. They have sold over 15 million records worldwide and Rammstein still consists of all the original band members. The bands live performances are infamous for their pyrotechnic theatrics, setting almost the entire stage ablaze along with each other on occasion. The band members have previously stated in other interviews that the reason behind putting on such a huge stage performance is due to the fact that the majority of their fans cannot understand the lyrics. So they felt the need…

Hailing from Los Angeles, California and reminiscent of the 80’s hair bands like the early years of Motley Crue and Poison, Steel Panther puts on a great performance. With their flamboyant personas, sequined spandex, big hair and lots of make up these guys are here to entertain and have a blast…

Fun. @ St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit! 4/15/12 (Concert Review & Photos)
Members: Nate Ruess, Jack Antonoff, Andrew Dost http://www.ournameisfun.com http://www.store.ournameisfun.com http://www.myspace.com/fun http://www.twitter.com/ournameisfun http://www.bebo.com/ournameisfun Someday Detroiters will think back to Fun’s sold-out performance at St. Andrew’s Hall and remember when they got to see the band perform at such an intimate venue. Andrew Dost is originally from Traverse City, MI which made this show a family affair. Parents and other relatives of the band members were at the show in support of Fun’s success. This brought extra warmth and personality to the performance. Nate Ruess amusingly told the crowd that even though he was born in Phoenix, he didn’t choose that, and he would have chosen Detroit and “Detroit’s soul” is given the opportunity.…

Murder By Death, Bars of Gold, Flatfoot, The Fencemen @ The Loft 4/13/12 (Review
The Fencemen –> http://thefencemenband.com/ Flatfoot –> http://www.flatfootmusic.com/ Bars of Gold –> https://www.facebook.com/BARSOFGOLD Murder By Death –> http://murderbydeath.com/news.php Capital City Film Festival –> http://capitalcityfilmfest.com/ Lansing’s The Loft received a good turnout for their Capital City Film Festival on Friday the 13th with Murder By Death, Bars of Gold, Flatfoot and The Fencemen. Any band that is playing a show with Murder By Death is worth learning more about. After hearing them praised by the other bands and listening to their song, “Knives,” opening locals, The Fencemen, deserve our attention. Their sound and style is comparable to Spoon, but The Fencemen hold their own and have a down to earth vibe. Check out their new full length album…

Grizzlypalooza: Gym Class Heroes w/ New Boyz 4/12/12 (Review and Photos)
Members: Eric Roberts, Travie McCoy. Matt McGinley, Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo http://www.gymclassheroes.com http://www.thevarsityclub.net Meadowbrook Music Festival in Rochester Hills, MI was full of eager college students and other die-hard fans ready to celebrate Spring’s first outdoor concert last Thursday. Gym Class Heroes put on a high-energy show that matched the exuberance of the crowd. Frontman Travie Mccoy had full command of the stage throughout the duration of the performance. He was evenly matched by his surprisingly funky band. The radio-friendly New Boyz performed just before GCH. The duo seemed enamored by the pretty co-eds in the crowd as they performed a slew of chart-topping songs.
