Terry Peake: Kreske Art Fellow Award Recipient 2013

This week Detroit celebrates Art X Detroit event which is a five-day multidisciplinary celebration, from April 10-14, 2013, that will exclusively present works created by the 2011-2012 Kresge Eminent Artists and Artist Fellows, along with a special visual arts exhibition at MOCAD that runs through April 28, 2013. Art X Detroit is supported by The Kresge Foundation.

Noize is profiling Terry Peake, who is being recognized as a classically trained composer and veteran of the Detroit rock scene. He has chosen progressive rock and the application of modern compositional techniques within it as his current main artistic focus.

We are documenting his first two performances that take place this weekend. We urge you to support local artists and check out any or all of his three performances taking place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

SCHEDULE (PRESS RELEASE)

In his first performance for Art X Detroit 2013, Peake launches a brand new project called Fireloom, an instrumental progressive rock band making its debut at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Both the formation of the band and the composition of the debut album were accomplished within the last few months, an opportunity made available to him as a 2012 Kresge Arts Fellow. The composition for the band is a continuation of his work in a previous project, Junecast, who will also be offering a rare performance this evening. Both sets will be accompanied by a 1960’s era oil light show from projectionist Jon Hudson.
