Langhorne Slim @ Royal Oak Music Theatre 1/17/12 (Photos & Review)

By Alexis Simpson

Langhorne Slim is one of my top ten favorite artists. I missed seeing him perform last year when he played at the Bling Pig in Ann, Arbor, so I was beyond excited to see him live this year on tour with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t listen to his honest music about love and life.

When he got on stage, Langhorne Slim had to sing over the talkative audience much to my dismay. But by the middle of his performance, the crowd was into it. Even the people in the way back of the large venue were dancing and impressed by the singer/songwriter and his talented band. Slim especially shined on the song “Mary.” In one of his older songs Langhorne talks about how he loves to dance, so I wanted to see him do just that. And dance he did…Langhorne Slim moves with the joy of someone who loves performing and singing, as if that is exactly what he was born to do. Langhorne Slim reminds me of a young Bruce Springsteen, except edgier and with a bit more soul.
